Summary of Activity and Data Gathered: During the period 2/12/07 - 2/16/07, we collected 7 cores from Oyster Pond, and 3 cores from Deep Pond. Details of positions and core lengths are recorded in files in folder Cape Cod Cores 2007 on Michael Casso's hard drive. Ice thickness was between 5 and 7 inches. Safety equipment included buoyant surfboard, drysuits, life jackets, ice claws, ice anchors, rope, and plywood slabs to distribute weight near an opened hole. Someone was on or close to shore to phone in a problem if the ice failed. An ice saw was purchased after this sampling trip to minimize shock to the ice while making a hole big enough to accommodate the corer. No problems were encountered.
