Information Specialist(s): Dann Blackwood

Data Type(s): Environmental Data: Conductivity, Imagery: Photo, Sampling: Biology, Sampling: Chemistry, Sampling: Geology

Scientific Purpose/Goals: Conduct tunicate surveys to determine extent of growth of tunicates on eelgrass beds.

Vehicle(s):

Start Port/Location: Vineyard Haven, MA

End Port/Location: Vineyard Haven, MA

Start Date: 2009-10-05

End Date: 2009-10-09

Equipment Used: Digital camera, Quadrats, digital under/above water camera, Sample containers, Refractometer, SCUBA, Camera- deep sea

Information to be Derived:

Summary of Activity and Data Gathered: We documented the occurrence of invasive species of tunicates on eelgrass in rapid assessment surveys and quadrat surveys. Eelgrass samples with and without attached tunicates were collected and dried in a drying oven at MV Commission office in Oak Bluffs. Eelgrass samples will be processed by EPA-Boston personnel for carbohydrate, sugar, and starch content. 191 digital photographs were gathered.
