Affiliate Investigator(s): Joanna York, University of Delaware

Information Specialist(s): Thomas Brooks

Data Type(s): Environmental Data: Current, Environmental Data: pH, Location-Elevation: Navigation, Sampling: Chemistry

Scientific Purpose/Goals: To directly measure fluid and solute fluxes across aquifer/ estuary interface in Guinea Creek, Rehoboth Bay, DE, USA

Vehicle(s):

Start Port/Location: Woods Hole, MA

End Port/Location: Woods Hole, MA

Start Date: 2015-06-08

End Date: 2015-10-22

Equipment Used: YSI multiparameter sonde, Seepage meters, GPS - Handheld, Push Point porewater samplers

Information to be Derived: ultrasonic and manual groundwater seepage measurements, surface water quality and tidal elevation, chemistry of interstitial and discharging groundwater

Summary of Activity and Data Gathered: Groundwater geochemistry, surface water quality parameters, and groundwater seepage rates were measured along the South shore of Guinea Creek, Millsboro, DE, USA in June, August, and October of 2015. Parameters included nitrate, ammonium, dissolved carbon and carbon isotopes, trace elements, salinity, dissolved oxygen, oxidation-reduction potential, pH, temperature, water depth, and ultrasonically and manually measured groundwater seepage from seepage meters. ~10 days of semi-continuous groundwater seepage and surface water quality data, and 157 sets of water samples for geochemical analysis were collected.

Staff: Thomas Brooks, Kevin Kroeger

Affiliate Staff:

Notes: Used USGS pick-up truck. Sampling equipment also included ultrasonic flow sensor.

This FAN was assigned after the field work was completed.
Entries for this field activity are based on entries from Field Activity 2015-037-FA
Information from Wally indicates the equipment used was: ultrasonic and manual seepage meters, YSI multi-parameter water quality sondes, push-point groundwater sampling devices, handheld GPS
