Other ID: none

Status: Completed

Organization(s): USGS, St. Petersburg Coastal and Marine Science Center

Funding Program(s): Coral Reef Ecosystems Studies - CREST (GX.22.MN00.E3R50.00)

Principal Investigator(s): Ilsa Kuffner

Affiliate Investigator(s): Harold Hudson, Reef Tech Inc.

Information Specialist(s): Ilsa Kuffner

Data Type(s): Environmental Data: Temperature, Biological Field Study: Experiments (biological), Imagery: Photo, Location-Elevation: Navigation

Scientific Purpose/Goals: Site visit to coral reef erosion monitoring stations to measure loss of reef elevation

Vehicle(s): Chevy Suburban Silver

Start Port/Location: St. Petersburg, FL

End Port/Location: St. Petersburg, FL

Start Date: 2015-10-11

End Date: 2015-10-15

Equipment Used: HOBO Water Temperature Pro V2 Data Logger, Global Positioning System (GPS), Digital Camera, Other

Information to be Derived: Height of reef loss per unit time

Summary of Activity and Data Gathered: The dive team located and measured reef-elevation loss at n = 16 "monuments" and n = 12 "rods." GPS locations and depths (FSW) were obtained for each monument / rod, and photographs and video were taken of them and the surrounding reef. A coral bleaching event was observed, including all of the main reef-building coral species. Heterogeneity in bleaching severity was noted among species and individual colonies within species.
