Data Type(s): Imagery: Photo, Location-Elevation: Benchmarks, Location-Elevation: Profiles, Sampling: Geology
Scientific Purpose/Goals: Site visit to investigate overwash deposits as a result of Hurricane Matthew. Goals are to collect beach profiles, map overwash deposits, photograph impacts to the environment from the storm, collect sediment samples and cores of overwash deposits.
Vehicle(s): Chevy Suburban Silver
Start Port/Location: St. Petersburg, FL
End Port/Location: St. Petersburg, FL
Start Date: 2016-10-13
End Date: 2016-10-15
Equipment Used: Camera, Digital, Hand Held, GPS Pole, Ashtech ProFlex 800 GNSS Receiver, Choke Ring Antenna, Core Barrels, Peat Corer, Other
Information to be Derived: Overwash deposits at select sites mapped for areal coverage, cores or trenches dug to determine thickness of overwash, and eventual volumetric calculations of overwash deposits made. Photographic and visual information collected to develop a more robust sampling strategy in the near future.
Summary of Activity and Data Gathered: Sediment samples and photographs were collected at each site.
