Information Specialist(s): Anastasios Stathakopoulos

Data Type(s): Imagery: Photo, Imagery: Video, Location-Elevation: Navigation, Sampling: Geology

Scientific Purpose/Goals: Determine the geographic extent of elkhorn coral populations in the past. Sample subfossil elkhorn corals for radiometric dating.

Vehicle(s): White Dodge Pickup - White

Start Port/Location: St. Petersburg, FL

End Port/Location: Dry Tortugas National Park, FL

Start Date: 2018-06-17

End Date: 2018-06-23

Equipment Used: GPS , Digital Video, Camera, Digital, Hand Held, Other

Information to be Derived: Hand samples from sub-fossil Acropora palmata (elkhorn coral), GPS coordinates of locations with subfossil A. palmata.

Summary of Activity and Data Gathered: Performed diver surveys to locate sub-fossil A. palmata reefs. GPS locations of identified sites were noted and 10 coral rock samples were taken using a hammer and chisel.
