AKA: none

Other ID: WTS21

Status: Completed

Organization(s): USGS, Pacific Coastal and Marine Science Center

Funding Program(s): Sediment Transport in Coastal Environments (ZP00FDB)

Principal Investigator(s): Jessica Lacy

Affiliate Investigator(s): Thorne, Karen (USGS WERC)

Information Specialist(s): Samantha McGill

Data Type(s): Time Series: Mooring (physical oceanography), Sampling: Geology, Location-Elevation: Benchmarks, Environmental Data: Turbidity, Environmental Data: Temperature, Environmental Data: Conductivity

Scientific Purpose/Goals: Collect data to determine sediment delivery to Whale's Tail marsh and its variation with tidal and wave conditions.

Vehicle(s): MarFac; crewcab - G63-2147R, Mitsubishi Outlander G61-0912R

Start Port/Location: Union City, CA

End Port/Location: Union City, CA

Start Date: 2021-06-04

End Date: 2021-08-20

Equipment Used: Moorings - Tripods, Push corer, Gomex Core, OBS, watersamples, Trimble R10

Information to be Derived: suspended sediment concentration in Bay shallows, marsh creeks, and over marsh, waves and currents in shallows, bed sediment grain size and bulk density

Summary of Activity and Data Gathered: Water samples were collected and analyzed for suspended sediment concentrations, sediment grabs were collected and analyzed for bulk density and grain size. Tidal creek discharge was measured. Additionally, hydrodynamic data including current velocities, pressure, temperature, salinity, were collected at various locations near the marsh edge and tidal creeks.
