Information Specialist(s):

Data Type(s): Sonar: Multibeam

Scientific Purpose/Goals: We will be testing the new Panoptix sonar which will assist in location deployed bottom landing platforms. We will not be collecting data.

Vehicle(s):

Start Port/Location: Falmouth

End Port/Location: Falmouth

Start Date: 2023-03-17

End Date: 2023-03-22

Equipment Used: Garmin Panoptix 3D

Information to be Derived: No data will be collected.

Summary of Activity and Data Gathered: Panoptix did not image the seabed very well, though it did provide good visuals of the water column. There are some settings we can try to adjust for a better visual of the bottom, but doesn't seem like it will be useful for finding bottom landing platforms. No data collected.

Notes: Testing is necessary in order to successfully find a deployed platform in NJ later in spring 2023. We hope the Garmin Panoptix sonar will assist with the recovery the platform which will be under a different FA.
