Other ID: Mote sunshade validation and coral restoration collaboration

Status: Pending

Organization(s): USGS, St. Petersburg Coastal and Marine Science Center, Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium

Funding Program(s): Physical Processes Impacting Seafloor Change and Ecosystem Services - PISCES (GX.25.MN00.UG810.00)

Principal Investigator(s): Selena Johnson, Lauren Toth

Affiliate Investigator(s): Jason Spadaro Mote Marine Laboratory; Ian Combs Mote Marine Laboratory

Information Specialist(s): Selena Johnson, Lauren Toth

Data Type(s): Imagery: Photo, Environmental Data: Light, Biological Field Study: Surveys (biological)

Scientific Purpose/Goals: 1) To collect coral-reef carbonate budget monitoring data at Mote Marine Laboratory's coral restoration locations-this information will provide Mote partners with data needed to optimize their restoration efforts and test hypotheses about the efficacy of different restoration strategies. 2) Collect data on relative light regimes of different locations of coral reefs to validate SfM-based sunshade models being developed for coral-restoration partners.

Vehicle(s):

Start Port/Location: Summerland Key, FL

End Port/Location: Summerland Key, FL

Start Date: 2025-06-11

End Date: 2025-06-13

Equipment Used: Digital Camera, HOBO Pendant Temperature/Light Data Logger 64K

Information to be Derived: Reef imagery for SfM analysis (collected and owned by Mote), census of coral reef bioeroders (collected by USGS/Mote), coral reef light data from sensors (collected and owned by USGS).
