Other ID: 25CCT01; 25CCT02

Status: Pending

Organization(s): USGS, St. Petersburg Coastal and Marine Science Center

Funding Program(s): Coastal Ecosystem Prediction System (CEPS) - MDMR MET reimbursable (GR.26.MN00.VBY08.00)

Principal Investigator(s): Kathryn Smith

Affiliate Investigator(s): Jonathan Pitchford (Grand Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve)

Information Specialist(s): Joseph Terrano, Kathryn Smith

Data Type(s): Time Series: Mooring (physical oceanography), Location-Elevation: Benchmarks, Location-Elevation: Navigation, Sampling: Geology

Scientific Purpose/Goals: These trips will be training and collaborating with the Grand Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve (GNDNERR) staff on how to deploy and collect net sediment tiles (NST), shoreline positions, and deploy and retrieve sensors (RBRs) Plan is to use GBNERR staff and vessel on every trip with minimal USGS staffing. This is the third study in a series that will evaluate the impact of a living shoreline on shoreline erosion and sediment transport. NST will be deployed in September 2025 and will be deployed and collected approximately quarterly.

Vehicle(s): Unknown

Start Port/Location: Saint Petersburg, FL

End Port/Location: Moss Point, MS

Start Date: 2025-09-02

End Date: 2025-12-06

Equipment Used: Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) DGPS, Other, Garmin GPS, Net Sedimentation Tile , Other

Information to be Derived: Sediment deposition (volume, bulk density, loss on ignition, grain size), shoreline position, marsh elevation, water level and waves.
