Other ID: G-1-93-FL

Status: Completed

Organization(s): USGS, St. Petersburg Coastal and Marine Science Center, University of South Florida

Funding Program(s):

Principal Investigator(s):

Affiliate Investigator(s): Guy Gelfenbaum

Information Specialist(s):

Data Type(s): Location-Elevation: Navigation, Sampling: Geology

Scientific Purpose/Goals: Understand the geologic evolution of the coast and inner cont. shelf and aid in coastal management. By investigating the subsurface sediment facies present on the shelf and determine the relationship among facies and with the underlying carbonate platform.

Vehicle(s):

Start Port/Location: Tampa Bay, FL

End Port/Location: Tampa Bay, FL

Start Date: 1993-01-01

End Date: 1993-01-01

Equipment Used: Vibracorer, GPS

Information to be Derived: Grain size, calcium carbonate content and total organic content for all cores. Select samples mineralogy by XRD analysis and age dating by carbon 14 or Sr-isotope ratio.

Summary of Activity and Data Gathered: 11 cores collected and analyzed under West Florida section of project.
