Funding Program(s): Coastal Habitats in Puget Sound (ZP00AZZ)

Principal Investigator(s): Joel Breems, Eric Grossman

Affiliate Investigator(s):

Information Specialist(s): Joel Breems

Data Type(s): Location-Elevation: Navigation, Sampling: Geology

Scientific Purpose/Goals: Determine distribution and thickness of fine wood waste (wood pulp) from abandoned pulp mill that has accumulated in the nearshore and now has created anoxic conditions.

Vehicle(s):

Start Port/Location: Friday Harbor, WA

End Port/Location: Friday Harbor, WA

Start Date: 2007-08-23

End Date: 2007-08-26

Equipment Used: navigation, augercore

Information to be Derived: Lateral and vertical distribution of buried fine wood waste and overlying sediment, foraminifer community structural variations associated with concentrated wood waste and anoxia.

Summary of Activity and Data Gathered: Thirty two cores ranging 0.5 to 2.0 m in length between approximately -0.5 to 2.0 m above mean lower low water in Thatcher Bay.
