AKA: none

Other ID: B-1-07-PS

Status: Completed

Organization(s): USGS, Pacific Coastal and Marine Science Center

Funding Program(s): Coastal Habitats in Puget Sound (ZP00AZZ)

Principal Investigator(s): Renee Takesue

Affiliate Investigator(s):

Information Specialist(s):

Data Type(s): Location-Elevation: Navigation, Sonar: Single Beam

Scientific Purpose/Goals: Measure winter beach elevation and grain size in Liberty Bay. Deploy in-situ sampling devices in Dogfish Creek.

Vehicle(s):

Start Port/Location: Liberty Bay, WA

End Port/Location: Liberty Bay, WA

Start Date: 2007-01-18

End Date: 2007-01-20

Equipment Used: GPS, Biosonics 420kHz

Information to be Derived: Cross-shore position and elevation; bulkhead location, extent, and characteristics; sediment grain size; dissolved concentrations of wastewater chemicals.

Summary of Activity and Data Gathered: Eighteen beaches were sampled over a 4-hour window around low tide (-2.5 ft MLLW) along the north shore of Liberty Bay from the city of Poulsbo to Point Bolin. Beach elevations were measured by Vivian Queija (NMD/Western Geographic Science Center) and grain size samples were collected by Renee Takesue (GD/WCMG). Digital photographs with scale bar were used to document grain size when grains exceeded medium pebbles.
