Other ID: D-4-66-SC

Status: Completed

Organization(s): USGS, Pacific Coastal and Marine Science Center, General Oceanographics, Inc., Naval Undersea Research and Development Center

Funding Program(s): Southern California Continental Borderland (MU270)

Principal Investigator(s): David Scholl

Affiliate Investigator(s):

Information Specialist(s):

Data Type(s): Seismics: Sparker, Sampling: Geology, Location-Elevation: Navigation

Scientific Purpose/Goals: To provide a better understanding of the geologic history of the Continental Borderland off the coast of southern California.

Vehicle(s):

Start Port/Location: n/a

End Port/Location: n/a

Start Date: 1966-07-30

End Date: 1966-08-09

Equipment Used: sparker, handsamplegrab, dartcore, radar

Information to be Derived: 750- to 3,000-joule high resolution detailed seismic reflection profiles seaward of two favorable areas, Eel and Lost Points, on the western side of San Clemente Island. Sampling of sediments at depths greater than 45 m.

Summary of Activity and Data Gathered: Detailed survey off Eel and Lost Points. 59 survey lines plus 8 north of Eel Point. Most data good. Eel Point profiles too highly exaggerated.68 samples collected.
