AKA: none

Other ID: K-1-10-BI

Status: Completed

Organization(s): National Park Service, University of California, Berkeley, Cornell University, USGS, Pacific Coastal and Marine Science Center

Funding Program(s): Coral Reefs (Pacific) (MU071)

Principal Investigator(s): Eric Grossman

Affiliate Investigator(s):

Information Specialist(s):

Data Type(s): Sampling: Biology, Sampling: Chemistry

Scientific Purpose/Goals: Quantify nearshore water quality conditions and the extent and volume of submarine groundwater discharge (SGD) plumes across west Hawaii coral reefs. Test whether coral bleaching and disease are linked to exposure to SGD or lack thereof. Quantify coral cover and community composition and changes through time at select monitoring sites. Determine the fate of SGD within coral reef settings.

Vehicle(s):

Start Port/Location: Kailua-Kona, WA

End Port/Location: Kailua-Kona, WA

Start Date: 2010-06-17

End Date: 2010-06-29

Equipment Used: Hand-grab sample, samples

Information to be Derived: Nearshore water quality, circulation processes, groundwater flux, coral species and cover distribution, bleaching and disease occurrence
