Summary of Activity and Data Gathered: Sample L2-1 -3-4 m makai of veg line, very dry, more coarse sand here (lower wave energy in embayment); Sample L2-2 - high swash.

Notes: Kaiolena Street:intersection of Mokulua and Kaiolena; embayed beach area with many catamarans (visible in aerial photo). Trades were blowing from the ENE at 20-30 knots, with gusts to 40, and had been for several days. Some scarping present as a result. Between 4 and 7 pm (moderate tides, moderate to large fetch waves), four locations along Lanikai Beach were sampled at 2 regions of the beach face. In most cases, samples labeled #1 are the upper 5-6 cm of sand collected ~0.5 m makai of the vegetation line; #2 is the upper 4 cm of sand collected from the high swash area. The swash was a bit steeper than usual, so samples were taken rather high on it rather than at mid-swash. The main street running along the shore in Lanikai is Mokulua Drive, and the samples are named by the cross streets at each of the access paths.
