AKA: none

Other ID: GHWEX2, T-1-01-WA

Status: Completed

Organization(s): Other, USGS, Pacific Coastal and Marine Science Center, USGS, Woods Hole Coastal and Marine Science Center

Funding Program(s): Coastal Change Hazards (MU051), Southwest Washington Coastal Erosion Study (MU274)

Principal Investigator(s): Guy Gelfenbaum

Affiliate Investigator(s): Chris Sherwood, USGS Woods Hole

Information Specialist(s): Laura Kerr

Data Type(s): Environmental Data: CTD, Environmental Data: Current, Environmental Data: Depth, Environmental Data: Turbidity, Location-Elevation: Navigation, Sampling: Geology, Sonar: Sidescan, Time Series: Mooring (physical oceanography)

Scientific Purpose/Goals: To study the conditions that transport sediment back on to the beaches near Grays Harbor, Washington. Instrumented tripod deployment and recovery in ~ 10 -25 m water off coast of Washington. Collection of surface sediment grab samples and CTD cast data.

Vehicle(s): None

Start Port/Location: Westport, WA

End Port/Location: Westport, WA

Start Date: 2001-05-04

End Date: 2001-07-11

Equipment Used: OBS, CTD, ADP, ADV, pressuregauge, GPS, VanVeengrab, acousticbackscatter, Moorings - Tripods

Information to be Derived: Wave height, period and direction; currents; suspended-sediment concentration; bed grain size; depth from instruments to seafloor; salinity, temperature and density of water column; sonar images of seafloor

Summary of Activity and Data Gathered: Six instrumented tripods were deployed in summer 2001 in conjunction with the collection of nearshore bathymetry and beach morphology data. After approximately 1 month, the tripods were pulled, batteries were changed, data were downloaded and the tripods and instruments were refurbished and redeployed for approximately another month. Morphology and bathymetry data collection have USGS activity id w2-01-wa.
