AKA: none

Other ID: W-1-07-MB

Status: Completed

Organization(s): USGS, Pacific Coastal and Marine Science Center

Funding Program(s): California Urban Ocean (MU034)

Principal Investigator(s): Bill Normark

Affiliate Investigator(s): Charlie Paull

Information Specialist(s): Bill Normark

Data Type(s): Location-Elevation: Navigation, Sampling: Geology

Scientific Purpose/Goals: The primary MBARI objective of these dives was to determine the recent sediment transport activity in each of these canyons with specific attention to tracking DDT residues. In addition, the USGS project interests were to determine which of the canyons, if any, show evidence for recent transport of coarse sediment and to examine the stratigraphy of the canyon walls on selected dives. Dive sites were based on MBARI and NOAA multibeam. The intention was to collect vibracore and push core along transects across the center of the axial channel and locally up the adjacent canyon walls.

Vehicle(s):

Start Port/Location: Moss Landing

End Port/Location: Moss Landing

Start Date: 2007-09-05

End Date: 2007-09-10

Equipment Used: GPS, vibratingcore

Information to be Derived: Late Holocene history of sediment transport through the canyons of the Monterey Bay Sanctuary area that are north and south of the Monterey Canyon and its tributaries.

Summary of Activity and Data Gathered: Will come later from MBARI cruise summary
