AKA: none

Other ID: W-2-01-WA,GHWEX2

Status: Completed

Organization(s): USGS, Pacific Coastal and Marine Science Center, Washington Deparment of Ecology, University of Deleware

Funding Program(s): Coastal Change Hazards (MU051), Southwest Washington Coastal Erosion Study (MU274)

Principal Investigator(s): Guy Gelfenbaum, Peter Ruggiero

Affiliate Investigator(s):

Information Specialist(s): Laura Kerr

Data Type(s): Location-Elevation: Navigation, Sampling: Geology, Sonar: Single Beam

Scientific Purpose/Goals: To study the conditions that transport sediment back on to the beaches near Grays Harbor, Washington. Collection of nearshore bathymetry using a second generation coastal profiling system. Collection of beach morphology data using a 6-wheeled amphibious buggy equipped with GPS and also a backpack mounted GPS system. Collection of surface sediment grab samples.

Vehicle(s):

Start Port/Location: Ocean Shores, WA

End Port/Location: Ocean Shores, WA

Start Date: 2001-05-06

End Date: 2001-08-10

Equipment Used: echosounder, landgrab, VanVeengrab, GPS, clamshellgrab

Information to be Derived: Nearshore bathymetry, beach morphology, grain size

Summary of Activity and Data Gathered: Nearshore bathymetry and beach morphology data were collected in conjunction oceanographic data during the summer of 2001. Bathymetry data were collected monthly at Ocean Shores, WA. Morphology data were collected weekly at Ocean Shores, WA. Surface sediment samples were collected in both the nearshore and on the beach. Oceanographic data have usgs activity id t1-01-w
