Why is PCMSC hosting data from the Alaska Science Center? As best we can tell, these data files were used by PCMSC scientists to write the following two papers: Hopkins, D.M., Nelson, C.H., Perry, R.B., and Alpha, T.R., 1976, Physiographic subdivisions of the Chirikov Basin, northern Bering Sea: U.S. Geological Survey Professional Paper 759-B, https://doi.org/10.3133/pp759B. -and- Hall, R.K., Karl, H.A., Carlson, P.R., Cooper, A.K., Gardner, J.B., Hunter, R.E., Marlow, M.S., and Stevenson, A.J., 1988, Bathymetric map of the Bowers Basin and Aleutian Basin east of the U.S.-U.S.S.R. 1867 Convention Line, Bering Sea: U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 89-548, https://doi.org/10.3133/ofr89548. The data have been housed on PCMSC's "walrus" server since Dec 1979/Jan 1980 (according to the file dates) "for archival purposes" as stated in the metadata. The metadata are robust, and PCMSC has been updating the WAF copy of the metadata to keep up with current standards. The metadata files are currently in the PCMSC WAF, and have been harvested by the USGS Science Data Catalog.
