Digital Shoreline Analysis System Version 3.2 19 May 2006 Installation: Save the compressed zip file of the DSAS extension to your machine and extract the contents. Launch the installer (DSAS Installer.msi) by double clicking. Once the installation wizard is complete the shoreline toolbar will be added to the toolbar when ArcMap is opened. If the toolbar does not open, manually enable the extension by selecting Tools -+AD4- Customize -+AD4- Shoreline Toolbar from the ArcMap menu. More information: Official DSAS website is http://woodshole.er.usgs.gov/project-pages/dsas/ Known issues for the DSAS v.3.2 extension: 1. Baseline and shoreline data (user-provided) must be imported into a Geodatabase in order to use DSAS. Steps explaining how to do this are described in the DSAS user-guide. 2. DSAS transects created in the previous DSAS v.2x (for ArcView 3.x) can now be converted for use in DSAS v.3.2. A stand-alone conversion utility (DSAS 2.1 to 3.0) is available for download from the DSAS website. 3. DSAS v.3.2 does not add required fields to shoreline/baseline feature classes. The user-guide outlines the necessary field requirements to run DSAS successfully. If any of those fields do not match the expected field type or if its size is different than expected by the program, DSAS will give an error message. To work around this issue, convert fields to the types and sizes required by DSAS. 5. Transects will not cast along baseline segments that have an ID field with a value of zero. Refer to the baseline field requirements described in the user-guide for more information. 6. DSAS will create a new, but empty transect feature class if the user attempts to cast transects using default parameters that do not fit the study area. Make sure the transect length, spacing, and casting direction (right/left) are appropriately defined for the input data. Refer to the user-guide for more information on the default parameter settings. 7. Once the transect feature class and intersect table are generated by DSAS it is highly recommended that the transect feature class and intersect table are kept WITHIN THE GEODATABASE, especially if future edits and recalculations are to be made. If these files are moved elsewhere, and edits/recalculate are attempted, DSAS will give the following error message: The parameter is incorrect. 8. If a back-up copy of the original transect feature class and intersect table are to be made (using ArcCatalog) keep them contained within the original geodatabase and be sure to copy the transect, intersect and distance files. 9. If transects are recalculated the user must press the refresh button in ArcMap to update the view. Change log: Version 3.2 Final - Public release Version 3.2 Beta 4 - Update Garbage Collection to force variable clearing - Previous log file now deleted upon start-up of ArcMap - Transects will now cast at the start of each baseline segment - 2-leg transects changed to baseline smoothing distance - Default parameters for transects updated - User-warning added when no C:\temp directory exists - Update LMS calculation to report maximum integer value of 32768 when change rates are outside bounds of the calculation Version 3.2 Beta 3 - Sort transects along baseline (updates output transects) - Reconciled DSAS table output (find deletions button under recalc options) - Fixed input file error message - Regular or extended log file options added - User-warning when required fields are missing (during recalculate) Version 3.2 Beta 2 - Amend LMS calculation to correct output errors Version 3.2 Beta - Update to include calculation of Least Median of Squares (LMS) Version 3.2 Alpha - update accuracy field check in recalc to check for long, shore and double Version 3.1 Final - Public release Version 3.1 Beta 10 - Bug fix - Dropped AOE from DSAS output and transect conversion utility Version 3.1 Beta 9 - Added new output table called +IBw-distance+IB0- which includes statistical information on net shoreline movement (NSM) and the shoreline change envelope (SCE).
