The Sidescan-Sonar Field Data:
Sidescan-sonar data files are binary encoded and cannot be viewed directly. The
files are cross referenced on the Sidescan-Sonar Field
Data page to help in locating and downloading selected files. To download
a selected file, simply follow the steps outlined below. The steps required to
download a data file utilizing WWW clients other than those listed below may differ
slightly.
Downloading a selected file with Netscape:
Windows 95/98, Windows NT, UNIX, DOS
- Locate the name of the desired file from the Sidescan-Sonar
Field Data page.
- Click on the filename. This links you to the DATA directory.
- Select the desired file by placing the system pointer on the file name from
the data list and pressing the right mouse button. This will display a pop-up
menu from Netscape.
- Drag the mouse to highlight "Save this link as ..." and
release the mouse button.
- When prompted, enter the directory and filename specifying where the selected
file will be stored on disk. The sidescan-sonar data file will then be transferred
from the DVD-ROM to the local disk file.
Repeat steps 3 and 4 until all desired data files have been downloaded
from the DVD-ROM.

Downloading a selected file with Internet Explorer:
To download a selected data file listed in the Sidescan-Sonar
Field Data page while using the Internet Explorer browser, follow
the above directions for Netscape. After selecting the desired file, use the mouse
to highlight "Save target as..." . Internet Explorer will then
ask to specify the name and location of where the selected data file should be
saved.
REMEMBER: The sidescan-sonar data files are binary files and cannot be
viewed directly. Attempts to view the files in a text window will result in long
loading times and unrecognizable characters being displayed. The sidescan-sonar
data listing with cross-references to the data files is simply to aid the user
in identification and downloading of desired files. See Readme.txt
in the BIN directory for details on how to view the raw data files on screen (available
for UNIX operating systems only).
The Navigation Field Data:
The navigation data are stored on the DVD-ROM as ASCII files and may be viewed
by going to the DATA PAGE and selecting the Navigation
Data link. All the navigation data are separated into individual files according
to Julian Day. There are two methods by which the user can download the navigation
data from DVD-ROM. One method is to follow the steps described above for downloading
the sidescan-sonar data. A second method is available when viewing the data file
in the text window. Select the Save As option on the pulldown menu from
the File button, located on the menu bar. When prompted, enter the directory and
filename specifying where the selected file will be stored on disk.
