The Gulf of Mexico GIS database is intended to organize and display USGS held data and provide on-line (WWW) access to the data and/or metadata. This GIS data layer shows the total organic carbon content of sediment within the U.S. Exclusive Economic Zone of the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic Ocean regions. The total organic carbon contours (in percent) were compiled by Collett (1995) as part of the assessment of gas hydrate resources for the 1995 National assessment of United States oil and gas resources. The tabular data used to generate this shapefile were copied from Charpentier et al (1996).en1996publication dateNone planned.-92.771991-66.34686743.99314925.810971-92.771991-66.34686725.81097143.993149GeneralU.S. Geological SurveyUSGSCoastal and Marine Geology ProgramCMGPWoods Hole Science CenterWHSCoil and gas resourceshydratescarbonPolyline shapefiletotal organic carbonGeneralGulf of MexicoEastern SeaboardU.S. East CoastUnited StatesAtlantic Oceanoceans and estuariesISO 19115 Topic CategorygeoscientificInformationNone

The study describes about 560 oil and gas plays in the United States; confirmed and hypothetical, conventional and unconventional. A parallel study of the Federal offshore is being conducted by the U.S. Minerals Management Service. This CD-ROM contains files in multiple formats, so that almost any computer user can import them into word processors and spreadsheets. The tabular data include some tables not released in DDS-30. No proprietary data are released on this CD-ROM, but some tables of summary statistics from the proprietary files are provided. The complete text of DDS-30 is also available, as well as many figures. Also included are some of the programs used in the assessment, in source code and with supporting documentation. A companion CD-ROM (DDS-35) includes the map data and the same text data, but none of the tabular data or assessment programs. The original file, atmx_toc.lin, was copied from DDS 36 where it had been stored in the Arc ungenerate format.20030501Geologistmailing and physical address

The file was made into a polyline shapefile, and the projection was kept as the original Albers Equal Area.20040206ArcToolbox was used to define the projection of the shapefile as Albers Equal Area, NAD83. The projection information used was listed by ESRI as: USA_Contiguous_Albers_Equal_Area_Conic_USGS.The shapefile was then reprojected to Geographic, NAD83 using ArcToolbox, v. 8.2.Geologistmailing and physical address
