The data were exported form Excel as a comma delimited text file that was named farn82-7_hr.txt. The identification of the fields are: 1. Latitude, 2. Longitude, 3. Year, 4. Month, 5. Day, 6. Hour, 7. Minute, 8. Second, 9. Depth (m-corr) - correction using Carter's Tables, 10. Depth (m-uncorr) - uncorrected water depth. Two additional fields were added to the file: Jday which contains the Julian day and Label which contains an hourly annotation.FARN82-7.DAT20040226David TwichellU.S. Geological SurveyOceanographer(508) 548-8700 x2266(508) 457-2310dtwichell@usgs.govmailing and physical address384 Woods Hole RoadWoods HoleMA02543-1598USAMicrosoft Excel20050802farn82-7_hr.txtThe comma delimited text file was imported to ArcView (v. 3.3) as a table, and then converted to a shapefile.farn82-7_hr.txt20040517Oceanographer(508) 548-8700 x2266(508) 457-2310dtwichell@usgs.govDavid TwichellU.S. Geological Surveymailing and physical address384 Woods Hole RoadWoods HoleMA02543-1598USAArcView 3.320050802farn82-7_hr.shpTwichell, D.Paskevich, V.1996GLORIA sidescan sonar and navigation field data collected in the Gulf of Mexico1.0Open-File Report96-707Woods Hole Science Center, Woods Hole, MAU.S. Geological Survey, Coastal and Marine Geology ProgramCD-ROM1996publication dateFARN82-7.DATThe ASCII text file containing hourly time fixes were copied from the publication CD-ROM and used to create the GIS data layer.David TwichellU.S. Geological SurveyOceanographer(508) 548-8700 x2266(508) 457-2310dtwichell@usgs.govmailing and physical address384 Woods Hole RoadWoods HoleMA02543-1598USAThe original navigation data were based on the NAD27 datum and they were reprojected to NAD83 using the Project utility in ArcToolbox.ArcGIS & ArcToolbox v9.0120050802farn82-7_hr.shpfarn82-7pnts.shpNo additional checks for topological consistency were performed on the data.
