Figure 14. A 5-megahertz Ocean Acoustic Doppler Velocimeter (ADV) mounted on a tripod. The ADV measures water flow in a small volume of water below the transducer assembly using the Doppler shift of sound that occurs when three beams reflect from scatterers in a small measurement volume.
