To compare the shifts in coral-associated microbial communities between healthy and diseased corals, in multiple species, across two National Parks (VIIS and DRTO)
Location
U.S. Virgin Islands
Summary
Samples (2 x 2-cm hole punches) of coral tissue were collected from Montastraea annularis (five healthy colonies and five colonies affected by white plague) located at Tektite reef in Greater Lameshur Bay. Samples (2 x 2-cm hole punches) of coral tissue were collected from Siderastrea siderea (five healthy colonies and five colonies affected by dark spot) located at Hawksnest Bay. All tissue samples were flash frozen in liquid nitrogen and returned to the USGS St. Pete laboratory for DNA extraction and later microarray analysis.
