Field Activity 11CEV04

Identifier 11CEV04
Purpose The purpose of the proposed work is to generate high-resolution records of sea-level change in Bermuda over the last 2000 years using mangrove sediments and consolidated limestone sediments comprised largely of dead coral skeletons. This study will provide the first direct comparison of these independent approaches and an extended instrumental (tide gauge) record. This study will be the first to directly compare the two methods in the same location and will serve to validate them both. Additionally, high resolution records of sea-level change spanning the last 2000 years provide an appropriate context for current and predicted changes. Such reconstructions also provide important constraints on future projections of sea-level rise.
