Second sampling off Rio de la Plata after passage of Hurricane David to determine post-storm recovery and seasonal variation in the shelf sediments.
Location
insular shelf off Rio de la Plata, Puerto Rico, United States, North America, North Atlantic;
Summary
The first day, 29 stations were occupied and sediment was recovered. The second day, rough weather prevented further sampling and planned dives. Depth recorder indicated 10-12 sec. waves with as much as 18-foot heights in 50 feet of water. Turbid water unlike the previous day covered the entire shelf. The turbid boundary followed the contour of the shelf break, probably indicating turbidity due to wave resuspension of mud.
