Recovered upper portion of mooring 314 (instrument 3141), found drifting in the Gulf of Maine.
Location
Gulf of Maine, United States, North America, North Atlantic,
Summary
The upper portion of mooring 314 (instrument 3141) was found drifting in the Gulf of Maine on or about October 2, 1986 by the crew of the F/V ST. GEORGE. They recovered the drifting gear. The mooring was originally deployed in Rogers Pass (L/L above), but it is not known where the mooring was recovered, and the note in the mooring log book does not state whether the mooring was recovered on October 2, or whether USGS was notified by the F/V ST. GEORGE of recovery on that date. The lower portion of the mooring (3142) was not attached. The instrument was picked up by USGS when the F/V ST. GEORGE returned to port. This Field Activity Report was created to document this serendipitous mooring retrieval. Mooring recovered: 1 (#314, partial - 3141 only, deployed FA 86017 GYRE Aug. 22, 1986).
