Identifier 2009-031-FA
Alternate names P-31-09-MA
Purpose Collect returning river herring and migrating young-of-the-year american eels from the outlet of Oyster Pond and the Trunk River in order to estimate the flux of Hg into and out of this coastal ecosystem with migrating fish.
Location Oyster Pond, Falmouth, Massachusetts, United States, North America, North Atlantic;
Summary 7 adult herring were collected 10 meters upstream of the the Bike Path Bridge over the Trunk River. All fish were migrating upstream. Approximately 15 young-of-the-year American eels were collected with a fine mesh net at the south end of Oyster Pond at the weir.
Comments Fish were collected between 8:30 and 9:30 PM on April 29. Flow was strongly out at both locations. Hand-held nets on wooden handles were used. Particpants did not use boots. A large snapping turtle was observed by flashlight for 5 minutes at the Oyster Pond Weir.
