Field Activity 2024-021-FA

Identifier 2024-021-FA
Alternate names Sesuit Marsh UAS Flights August 2024
Purpose The primary goal of this work is to use unmanned aerial systems (UAS) and Structure-from-Motion (SfM) photogrammetry techniques to map the topography and vegetation land cover within a portion of the Cape Cod marsh ecosystem at Sesuit marsh in Dennis MA, to develop a baseline map of vegetation cover types. The UAS platform will gather georeferenced and spectral imagery to be used in creating the models for classification of current vegetation types.
Location Sesuit Marsh, Dennis, Massachusetts
Summary Staff completed UAS flights off the side of the road next to the Sesuit Marsh Creek at low tide. One lidar flight, two altum PT flights, and two SkyDio flights were done. Six AeroPoints were laid out. Rick from the conservation land came out and watched.

2024021FA_Sesuit_Aug2024 YellowScan Mapper + Topographic data, aerial imagery, and GPS data collected during uncrewed aircraft system (UAS) operations at Sesuit Marsh, Dennis, Massachusetts, August 12, 2024. Lidar data were collected due to the technology's ability to penetrate vegetation canopy and provide accurate digital terrain models (DTMs). Aerial imagery was collected with appropriate resolution and overlap to permit high-quality photogrammetry and generation of digital surface models (DSM) and orthoimagery. Multispectral imagery was collected to aid in vegetation classification workflows. The individual images are available from the IDS system. Jennifer M Cramer
