Summary
Circe Expedition, a circumnavigation of the world which explored the western Pacific, Indian and southern Atlantic oceans with support from the National Science Foundation and the Office of Naval Research. During this expedition, participants studied bottom topography, magnetic patterns, heat flow, sediments and variations of the earths magnetic field near the equator. Data pertinent to the sea floor spreading theory was collected. The expedition used a seagoing computer and a satellite navigation system, which was unique at that time.
