| Purpose | Investigate tectonic, magmatic, and hydrothermal processes along the Blanco Ridge, a strike-slip segment of the Blanco Fracture Zone | ||||||||
| Description | Chief Scientists: Randy Koski, Bob Embley, Stephanie Ross. Data (bathymetry, underwatercamera, underwatertelevision, core) of field activity C-2-94-WO in Blanco Ridge from 08/27/1994 to 09/06/1994 | ||||||||
| Location | Blanco Ridge | ||||||||
| Summary | 67 hours of video tape, 1000 still photographs, Sea Beam bathymetry, 57 rock samples, 10 sediment cores | ||||||||
| Comments | (From Sept. 9, 1994 USGS bulletin) Randy Koski reports that during the first three days of their cruise aboard the LANEY CHOUEST (with Bohannon, Gray, Reid, Ross, Smith, and Tormanen) deployments of the U.S. Navys advanced tethered vehicle (ATV) and submersible DSV TURTLE have yielded 45 hours of videotape and about 25 rock samples from the south flank and crest of Blanco Ridge. Accumulations of volcanic rock fragments and evidence for rock avalanches on the Ridge flanks are consistent with the record of seismicity along this transform fault zone. This collaborative program with NOAA and the NAVY will continue through September 7, with final operations in the east Blanco Depression. | Marine mineral geochemical data - Part One: Pacific Ocean USGS-affiliated historical data | grab sampler | This data release compiles element composition data for more than 600 deep-ocean mineral samples from more than 25 research cruises in the Pacific Ocean since 1979 that involved USGS researchers. Deep-ocean mineral sample types encompassed in this data release include ferromanganese crusts, manganese nodules, phosphorites, and hydrothermal minerals. This data release is comprised of both unpublished as well as previously published data and reports and includes analytical methods and instrument detection limits whenever available. | Katlin Adamczyk |
