To collect quarterly community structure, rugosity, and biogeochemical cycling data using line transects and in situ geochemical sampling apparatus (Four quarterly sampling trips have been scheduled, dates to be determined).
Location
La Parguera, Puerto Rico Site 1 - Cayo Enrique (fore-reef) Site 2 - San Cristobal (back-reef lagoon) Site 3 - La Atravaso (seagrass bed)
Summary
Divers will swim along 50-m line transects and collect photo-quadrate data and ambient coral species data. A weighted line of known length will be deployed and used to measure reef rugosity. A CROSS benthic flux unit will be deployed to measure pCO2 and [O2] at the reef/water column interface. Discrete water samples will be collected using a peristaltic pump for future geochemical analysis. Photo-quadrate data will be analyzed in the lab using Coral Point Count (CPCe) software.
Info derived
Reef organism assemblages, seasonal change in community structure, reef rugosity, ambient pCO2, and ambient [O2].
