Field Activity 12TST05

Identifier 12TST05
Alternate names test cruise
Purpose Test Edgetech's 216 chirp system
Location Offshore St. Pete Beach
Summary This cruise was a test of Edgetech's 216 chirp system to compare with our Edgetech 512i and 424 systems. The test was conducted off St. Pete Beach at a location we have collected 512i and 424 data before. The 216 system tested was in poor condition, the cable was inoperable and the fish was pretty beat up. In comparison, the 512i data run at the same frequency with the 216 fish was far superior. In fact the results from the 424 system were superior to the 216. At this time we don't know if the equipment was malfunctioning and therefore responsible for the poor data quality or not. Recommendation is to repeat the test with another 216 system.
Info derived Comparison of subbottom penetration of the Edgetech's 216 versus the 512i and the 424 data collected on previous cruises.
Comments Test cruise (TST) for the Edgetech 216 chirp system. FACS overview, staff, and equipment logs were also collected.
