Obtain at least 30 piston cores from 21 pre-selected target areas and determine character of bottom sediment in the study area. Subsamples were collected for hydrocarbon content, bacteria taxonomy, geotechnical properties, pore water geochemistry, and age determination.
Location
Florida-Hatteras continental slope, inner Blake Plateau, United States, North America, North Atlantic;
Summary
Piston cores: 51, archived at Duke; Box dredges: 26; Rock dredges: 12; Airgun.
Info derived
Samples and chemical analysis; Grain size analysis; Morphology;
Comments
Subsamples taken by David Schultz, USGS-Reston, for light hydrocarbon and organic anaylsis. Subsamples taken for Frank Senftle, Fred Sisler and Jody Zelibor, USGS-Reston, for bacterial and early diagenetic microbial degradation. Subsamples taken for Frank Manheim, USGS-Woods Hole, for geochemistry of interstitial pore water.
