Collect approximately 20 diver cores to be analyzed for stratigraphic distributions of 210Pb and selected trace metals.
Location
Potomac River from Chesapeake Bay to Washington DC, St. Mary's River, Breton Bay, Maryland, United States, North America, North Atlantic;
Summary
Twenty sites were occupied. For each site, the following work was conducted: Cross section depth profile was run before the site was reoccupied for sampling and data collection. Salinity, conductivity, and temperature readings were obtained in the lower portion of the river. Diver core approx. 1 m in length and 12 cm in diameter obtained and split on board. Photographs and descriptions of each core were made. Subsamples from one half of cores were taken. Remaining half prepared for transport to Corpus Christi for x-radiography. Piston core taken, extruded, and described. Samples taken from selected cores. Bottom sampler was used to obtain sediment samples for trace metal analyses.
