Alternate names 85-12
Purpose LEG 1, 09/09-11/1985 - Study of sand sheet and ridges atop submerged delta of the Merrimack River using the hybrid Uniboom/GeoPulse seismic profiler. LEG 2, 09/11-23/1985 - Continue seismic profiling in Blue Hill and Frenchman Bays, Maine.
Location Merrimack River, New Hampshire, Northeast Harbor, Blue Hill Bay, Frenchman Bay, Maine, Gulf of Maine, United States, North America, North Atlantic;
Summary The New England Nearshore Geology project's Annual Fall Foliage Cruise took place between the 9th and 23rd of September. The first leg, under the command of Novice Chief Scientist Jody Edwards, studied the sand sheet and ridges atop the submerged delta of the Merrimack River using the hybrid Uniboom/GeoPulse seismic profiler. The God Neptune did not favor Chief Scientist Edwards and he suffered much bad weather. All the gods were with Aging Chief Scientist Bob Oldale, lovely GFA Monica Webster, and Ace Technician Ken Parolski as they left Gloucester and were taken north, enroute to Northeast Harbor via Booth Bay Harbor, ME, by Captain Dick Colburn. This second part of the cruise took place in Blue Hill and Frenchman Bays under a long-lived high pressure system that provided bright blue skies, calm wind, and clear cool nights. The profiler worked to perfection, accompanied by a magnificent view of Mount Desert Island resplendent in brilliant fall colors. The Last Night Out dinner, served on the back deck of the ASTERIAS, consisted of salad, french bread, wine, and boiled lobster. Eat your hearts out. Uniboom/GeoPulse data: 352 km.
