Purpose Deploy two benthic chambers ("squirts") near the long-term Station 3. The purpose is to measure the flux of metals and nutrients from sediments. Discharge of sewage effluent from the Massachusetts Bay outfall began on September 6.

Summary Each pair of divers deployed one benthic chamber in one dive. The chambers were lowered in a weighted frame and divers lifted the chambers out of the frame and placed them on the bottom nearby. Visibility was poor.
