Field Activity 2002-061-FA

Identifier 2002-061-FA
Alternate names MALLIK 5L-38
Purpose Three 1200 m deep wells will be drilled on Richards Island, Mackenzie Delta, Northwest Territories, Canada to explore the presence of subpermafrost gas hydrate. Gas hydrates have been of global interest during the past decade because of their potential impact on energy reserves, global climate change, continental margin slope stability and petroleum drilling hazards.
Location Mallik well site, Richards Island, Mackenzie Delta, Northwest Territories, Canada, North America;
Summary Gas hydrate production well: 1, 1200 m; Scientific observation wells: 2, 1200 m each; Sample: 50 pressure vessels and 4 Dewar flasks.
