Field Activity 2003-054-FA

Identifier 2003-054-FA
Purpose Test new SEA Submetrix transducer electronic modules (TEM) upgrades.
Location Cape Cod Canal, Massachusetts, United States, North America, North Atlantic;
Summary Ran a successful test of the TEM upgrades for the USGS 234 kHz SEA Submetrix system. Noted improved backscatter dynamic range when compared with the older modules, which in turn contributed to better interferometric solutions for the swath bathymetry. Collected 6 lines of Submetrix 2000 interferometric sidescan, along with 3 casts for sound velocity profiles. These data overlap with a data set collected by Benthos, Inc., in which they ran the new C3D system, an interferometric sidescan that Benthos is marketing. Will compare results from both systems.
