Field Activity 2019-032-FA

Identifier 2019-032-FA
Purpose This activity will deploy an array of 6 intermediate period ocean-bottom seismographs (OBS). The OBS will record ambient seismic noise for ~6 - 12 months. The ambient noise will be used to measure sediment shear wavespeeds. Shear wavespeed is a proxy for shear strength, a key parameter in controlling slope stability.
Equipment or personnel only. Data, if any, are managed under a different field activity.
Location Atlantic Ocean
Summary Six ARRA intermediate period ocean bottom seismographs were recovered from the continental rise just north of the New England Seamounts. Data recovery was nearly 100%.
Info derived Sediment shear wavespeed
Comments Instrumentation: 6 WHOI ARRA-type ocean bottom seismographs Note that this field activity is for an instrument deployment only; No data will be retrieved until the instrument recovery. Entries for this field activity are based on entries from Field Activity 2018-051-FA
