Investigate aqueous chemistry and hydrology of Double Keyhole Cave
Location
Double Keyhole Cave, near Tampa Bay Florida
Summary
Sonde profiles collected, in deep room and through passages pre-Hurricane Eta on 11/12/2020; Osmosamplers deployed on 11/18/2020 downstream of brine shaft and near entrance; water samples collected near interior osmosampler deployment site. Diving conditions were exceptionally difficult after Hurricane Eta which limited sample collection and ability to place osmosamplers.
Info derived
Sonde profiles, chemical measurements of discrete samples, time series record of water chemistry, flow rates. Samples collected for analysis of dissolved organic carbon, dissolved inorganic carbon, alkalinity, anions, dissolved methane, water isotopes, total dissolved sulfide, nutrients and particulate organic carbon.
Comments
Device used to collect water samples used to collect samples for Biological Field Study and Geochemistry was OsmoSampler (https://www.mbari.org/sampling-fluids-from-earths-crust/).
Bobby drove from Woods Hole to Florida to do the work and bring samples back - hence the Woods Hole for start and end port.
Information from Pohlman with regards to data types to be collected: Environmental Data - data collected with EXO2 sonde: temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, redox, pH. Geochemical - samples collected for analysis of dissolved organic carbon, dissolved inorganic carbon, alkalinity, anions, dissolved methane, water isotopes, total dissolved sulfide, nutrients and particulate organic carbon
Equipment: Exo2 Sonde, Osmosamplers, Syringes
