Summary |
Planned data coverage for this dataset includes the shoreline from Manasquan Inlet, NJ to Sandy Hook, NJ, Staten Island, NY between Great Kills Park and Fort Wadsworth, and the south shore of Long Island, NY from Breezy Point to Montauk Point. Lidar data collection focuses on a narrow swath that captures the beach and dune system to the first line of infrastructure, with the exception of the barrier island between Fire Island Inlet and Shinnecock Inlet, NY, for which the full cross-shore extent of the barrier island was collected. The planned point spacing is 70 centimeters on land and in shallow water. In deeper water the planned point spacing increases to 2 meters. Since the purpose of these surveys is to capture the beach and dune system, bathymetric data was only incidentally collected during acquisition of topographic lidar data. Gaps or data holidays may exist in the bathymetric lidar data coverage. They arise due to a number of operational and environmental conditions, including but not limited to, airspace restrictions, high terrain, active surf, low-reflectivity bottom substrate materials and turbidity in the water column. |
