Summary
Ten sediment cores were collected from five wetland sites along a salinity transect of two tidal tributaries of the York River, Virginia - Pamunkey River and Mattaponi River. Lengths of cores ranged from 38 cm - 102 cm. Location and elevation of sediment core collections was determined by RTK GPS in the field for some sites with adequate signal; at some sites handheld GPS latitude and longitude were recorded. Cores were sectioned in the laboratory. Sediment processing and analysis for radioisotopes and particulate carbon to determine sediment accumulation rates and carbon content is ongoing.
