Field Activity 2022-022-FA

Identifier 2022-022-FA
Alternate names Great Sippewissett Marsh UAS Lidar Mapping
Purpose Questions to answer: • Can we acquire a bare earth estimate in the marsh? • Canopy height model focusing on specifically Phragmites structure • Compare SfM techniques to lidar data collection result
Location Great Sippewissett Marsh, Massachusetts
Summary A Reference mark was set up on 2022-10-27 by Ackerman and Over using the SP80 base at the field site. UAS flights and RTK data were done on 2022-11-02 by the entire field crew. Seven flights were done with the M600 to collect two sets of lidar data with two systems and then a Ricoh imagery dataset. Aeropoints and Vinyl targets were placed, and an elevation transect was done with a SP80 Rover. Video was collected with an Anafi.
Info derived Lidar point cloud, ground control points for lidar and RGB, walking transects on marsh platform, sand dunes and bike path surface. RGB images (Ricoh), RTK to ground truth Phragmites vegetation data. UAS used: NUSO will bring M600 and lidar sensor (Riegl VX-20-100 or Livox Horizon Mapper). These RGB imagery will be used to create DEMs and orthomosaics using SfM and a map of vegetation. The SfM products will be compared with the lidar.
Comments NUSO and NYWSC may have separate funding sources.
