Purpose The primary purpose of the SALT expeditions is to conduct reconnaissance for deep coral propagation activity in support of the Open Ocean Restoration Plan. SALT 2 will conduct operations in the mesophotic zone (< 300 m) from May 31- June 11, 2022 using a science class ROV to obtain, supply, and distribute coral samples and livestock to shoreside partners for coral husbandry, population genetics, microbial ecology and reproductive biology studies.

Summary Collected 50 mesophotic coral samples from species Thesea nivea, Swiftia exserta, Muricea pendula, and yellow Plexauridae for molecular analysis and in a few cases cultivation.
