Field Activity 2022-647-FA

Identifier 2022-647-FA
Alternate names Mud 1n
Purpose Between 5-27 Sept, 2022, we will conduct multicore deployments, subbottom profiling, and CTD operations within impact zones and reference areas in the northern Gulf of Mexico in response to the 2010 DWH Oil Spill.
Location northern Gulf of Mexico
Info derived Summary of Objectives: Deploy multicore for quantitative sediment sampling of the expanded sediment impacted zone and reference sites. Conduct subbottom profiling over survey areas to groundtruth seafloor multibeam mapping efforts. These data allow surficial sediment thickness to be quantitatively measured, can reveal information about sub-surface controls on seep localization and hard-bottom occurrence, and provides important constraints on interpreting surficial sedimentary processes. Define water column oceanographic and nutrient properties using CTD rosette casts and water sampling at priority sites.Collect eDNA samples from CTD casts at select locations.
