Field Activity A368NP

Identifier A368NP
Alternate names A-3-68-NP
Purpose To study bottom topography, magnetic patterns, heat flow, sediments and variations of the earths magnetic field near the equator in the Western Pacific, Indian, and southern Atlantic Oceans.
Description Scripps Institution of Oceanography. Geophysical data (airgun, transitsatellite) of field activity A-3-68-NP in Argo Circe from 03/08/1968 to 03/17/1968
Location Argo Circe
Summary Circe Expedition, a circumnavigation of the world which explored the western Pacific, Indian and southern Atlantic oceans with support from the National Science Foundation and the Office of Naval Research. During this expedition, participants studied bottom topography, magnetic patterns, heat flow, sediments and variations of the earths magnetic field near the equator. Data pertinent to the sea floor spreading theory was collected. The expedition used a seagoing computer and a satellite navigation system, which was unique at that time.
Info derived Seismic reflection profiles.
