Ocean Acidification

Dates 2007-10-01 to 2017-09-30
Description The Response of Florida Shelf Ecosystems to Climate Change project will address the broad science question: What are the implications of climate change on shelf habitats and what is the overall sustainability of certain critical carbonate ecosystems under changing environmental conditions.A multipronged approach will be used to acheive the objectives of:1) Evaluating changes in shelf distribution of sediment producing calcifying organisms;2) Determining the response of elevated CO2/reduced carbonate saturation on foraminifera and calcifying green algae;3) Mapping shelf bottom and subbottom characteristics using existing datasets;4) Acquiring field data that will provide additional bottom, subbottom, and biogeochemical information of the shelf to fill in data gaps;5) Integrating data sets in geodata base for modeling efforts.
